ABOUT ME

  I am an Exeter based Psychotherapist and Counsellor.

 I feel I am a mature, grounded and very real person who has had numerous life experiences  which have helped me to develop empathy and an understanding of others, which I feel is just as important as having the qualifications. I  regularly undertake extra training as I feel it is important to learn more about  the complex issues which clients may bring to me.
I have experience of working in many different ways with a variety of issues. My approach is integrative, meaning that I draw on all aspects of my training from  Gestalt, Person centred, CBT, NLP and Transactional Analysis and sandplay, but with the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client of paramount importance.

I see my role in your life as not someone who is going to fix you or give you advice. I believe we have the answers within us and you are more knowledgable than I on what it is you need. I am someone who will support you, offering a warm safe respectful space for you to explore  what it is you would like to change or identify old patterns of thinking or behaviour which are no longer working for you. I will walk alongside you until you feel ready to walk alone again.

I also have experience and training in Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Bereavement and Loss, mental health problems, Pregnancy and Abortion and Self Harm. I have worked as a volunteer counsellor for many charities including Samaritans, Childline, The Quiet Mind Centre and  CRUSE.

In October 2010 I am deeping my counselling skills by completing a further Psychotherapy course in Gestalt and Body process work

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I work within the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a member of the Hypnotherapy Society.I am fully insured and have an up to date enhanced CRB.
