Further Information

My name is Shelley Holland and I am a qualified counsellor and accredited with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I have worked with a variety of people who have come to counselling with a wide range of difficulties and issues that they have wanted to explore. Many people who I see for counselling sessions are wanting to explore their relationships, either problems in relationships of the present or diffficulties with past relationships that are still influencing how they are today, for example with parents, siblings, or partners.

Other issues that those seeking counselling wish to explore include self-harming, self-esteem and confidence issues, childhood trauma, physical ill-health, sexual assault and rape, depression, debilitating anxiety, a sense of 'not feeling quite right', problems at work, bereavement and loss, etc.

I also have many years experience offering counselling to young people and adolescents who are aged 15 to 25 years of age through my work co-ordinating a counselling service within the charitable sector, so have a professional understanding of the difficulties of experiencing the teenage years - from the viewpoint of both teenager and parent!

My main model of working is the psychodynamic approach where the emphasis is on providing a secure, safe, and supportive therapeutic relationship where problematic issues can be understood through an exploration of both conscious and unconscious feelings - feelings that are buried or difficult to access are just as important as those we are all too aware of feeling!

Counselling is a great commitment - both for you embarking upon a challenging journey to greater emotional and psychological health, and myself as I journey with you. From my years employed in the voluntary sector as a counselling provider I've learnt that for the vast majority of people counselling is of huge and measureable benefit. Beginning this journey is in your hands.
