If he has problems sleeping at night then it may be because he is sleeping a lot in the daytime so doesn't need any sleep at night. If this is the case then he may want to restrict his daytime sleeping so that he is naturally more tired at night.

I think Sharon has said it in her first reply. If your partner spends 'many hours a day sleeping' then he doesn't need to sleep at night.
My 96 year old mother in law complains of insomna and says she doesn't sleep in the day time BUT we have discovered her fast asleep in front of the TV during the early evening which is why SHE can't sleep at night.
Sleeping tablets are not much use because their effects make the taker dozy during the day time and likely to fall asleep - or over, which is worse - and negate their effect at night.
