Thyroid is a small gland located in our neck. The main purpose of this gland is to produce hormones to run our metabolism properly. As metabolism is one of the most important functions of our body it can trigger a host of disorders like excessive weight gain or weight loss, sleeping disorders, depression etc.

There are natural thyroid supplements:Thyromine or Thyroid Support Formula.
Natural ingredients which are not likely to cause adverse or harmful side effects.

Changing you diet, exercise and deal with your stress levels.
Aromatherapy massage offers a natural alternative to balancing your hormones the use of essential oils could heal the body, alter moods and generally improve the quality of life.

By doing your own research you will become more informed about your condition and more able to make a more informed choice about your health.
Nutrition and lifestyle changes is a safe and natural way of healing any disease.

From what I understand graves desease can create a lot of stress, as well as the fact that you have 3 small children to look after this also is stressful, so it does not surprise me that you have good and bad days. I do not know why you are worried that your children may be taken away from you? You are allowed to experience emotions and this is natural, so I would encourage you to go to your doctor again for some reassurance. He/she has to treat your symptoms as confidential. You have had depression in the past and maybe your doctor would have a solution to your mood swings. Please do not be afraid to go. Depression and mood swings can be common and easily treated.
I do not feel you have Bi-polar.

Lisa please can I urge you to visit your GP or seek a counsellor. Sounds like a number of changes are taking place & that may be for a lots of reasons. You don't have to go on feeling like this there is help & I know we hear horror stories but your welfare is the most important and highly unlikely to result in losing your children. Something has changed it could be diet stress or a host of other life changes I hope you have a good day that allows you to seek help to start a road to recovery. Your question is a first step.

Hello Lisa. Emotions can be hard to deal with if they are so erratic. Sometimes things have happened in the past that have been too painful and they are put away in a drawer somewhere deep inside you. However, some time later they can pop their head up again in the form of feeling a bit out of control emotionally. At some point these feelings would need to be dealt with. It doesn't sound like you have Bipolar Disorder but I would check out hormone levels with the GP. Due to stresses deep inside of you, your hormones could play up and this could be one of the reasons of the up-and-down emotions. Homeopathy can be very good at treating these symptoms. Homeopathy treats the underlying imbalance so you would feel much better emotionally and physically too.

    Dear Lisa

It must be very worrying for you right now not knowing exactly what the problem might be, clearly you want to have some answers now. I suggest that you contact your GP or a counsellor who will be able to support you while you get to the bottom of what is going on.

I hope that you are able to get the help you are so desperate seeking quickly.

    Dear Lisa,

Your current difficulties sound awful for you. I do agree with the other comments and would like to encourage you to visit your GP. Perhaps the medication you are currently on needs modifying in some way or is actually wrong for you. Do try and be honest with your GP or s/he will simply not be able to help you properly. There is no shame in feeling the way you do; you've just reached a time in your life when you need some help. Counselling or psychotherapy can work in tandem with your medication to help you locate the source of your mood swings and to find better ways to cope.
You're probably a brilliant mother for your boys. Think of all the good things you've done for them in the meanwhile whilst seeking help; rest assured in the knowledge that anything you do to help yourself will help your boys too.

    Take care,
    Linda

    Dear Lisa,
I can not say if you have Bi-polar.
    However, I taught a Bi-polar Transcendental Meditation (TM)about 8 years ago.
He was under Sutton Hospital and having regular checks on his blood because if he took too much medication it was toxic, if he did not have enough it did not work.
After 3 months he stopped taking unprecribed drugs and starting saving up for his mothere to learn TM - he was very impressed with it.
BUT the great point is that about 9 months after he learnt TM, and after the regular hospital blood test, the doctors cut down his medication by 30%. He put this down entirely to practicing Transcendental Medication.
Another good point to remember is that even if you have not got bi-polar there are such a vast array of benefits from learning / practicing TM. Once learnt you can do it at home on your own. you want to know more visit www.TmLondonSouth.org or give me a call on 020 *removed* *removed* .
    Good Luck!

    Hi Lisa
I am currently treating a rapidly increasing amount of people with thyroid problems – many taking carbimazole and many describe their symptoms and days just as you have ... some days they have no energy and cannot gather the strength or stamina to get out of bed, they cannot sleep, cannot eat, are constantly worried and are very up and down. I have found that the symptoms have been relieved by energy healing (but always recommend that this therapy is used alongside conventional medicine) and many thyroid problems are from energy blockages and us not following our true path (if we veer dramatically off our path then quite often physical symptoms result). Using crystal and energy healing, the client can release blocks and negativity, discover their correct path and many are now moving forward with renewed energy and a more balanced outlook. Crystal balancing is also very relaxing and can reduce the stress (which is one element that Graves Disease can do without!). I would recommend seeing an energy/crystal therapist but also pop into your GP – as the others have said, everything is confidential and you may just need your medication tweaked. Take care. Hi Lisa,

I highly recommend looking at your diet - this can have a massive effect on all your body functions and moods. Try avoiding all artificial additives and having an allergies / food intolerance test.

I would agree that maybe it could be worth going back to your GP and seeing if your medication may need altering.

Therapies like reflexology and acupuncture are excellent at normalising hormone balance because they can effect the hypothalamus and pituitary glands in the brain and restore balance, as well as helping you relax and sleep better.

If you have always suffered from depression then i suggest trying to trace back to the root cause, no matter how big or small it is, and try doing some positive visualisations on forgiving it / forgiving yourself and finding a positive lesson in it in order to move on from it. Old emotional traumas can go on to cause actual physical symptoms later in life. Do you find it easy to express yourself and make yourself heard? Charlotte
